How Well Does Your Team Work?
.
.
To have good team work in the practice you also need to have good management and leadership.
.
The teams that work the best are the ones who have a high level of autonomy in the first place.
.
Here are a couple of examples of essential team work for a front desk team:
.
• Answering all calls and dealing with all situations before handing the calls over
.
• Being aware of the rest of the team –
o who’s on the phone to a NP and must not be distracted
o who has a patient that is not happy and needs a private space to talk to them
o who’s booking lots of appointments for a patient and needs to concentrate and not have a queue of people around them
.
• Not constantly contacting the PM with every call and issue that comes through
.
• Not sending constant messages to the treatment rooms but dealing with them themselves and implementing systems so as to not distract the treatment room while they are with patients.
.
.
.
If you wish to embark on a process of improving your teamwork I would advise you start with a swot analysis.
.
Often when asking teams to perform the task they are held back by threats. The biggest threat I can see would be a negative team member – the bad apple! Identify them and get them out of the picture or you’re going nowhere!
